How Much Personal Space Do We Need?
We each need, desire our own personal space. I think of it as drawing an invisible circle around with me in the middle. It is our comfort zone so to speak. When someone crosses over the line and gets too close we feel uncomfortable. For each this invisible circle is quite different. Some have a very tiny line while for others it can be quite large. Sometimes a person will get right up in another's face to talk and it feels like they are invading our space. That's our buffer zone and at times we may back up to protect this zone and feel more comfortable. I also believe we each desire a place in the house that is dubbed as our space. A place where we can go that is our own personal space, perhaps filled with objects that make us feel content. We've marked this as our territory. In my humble opinion we all need some personal space, just for us. And, recognizing this, we can also respect the space of others. If we are paying attention and see that another has stepped back, we can then realize where their imaginary circle for personal space is and honor that. And, let us not forget that this line we've drawn isn't chiseled in stone, but is flexible and can move as we change or the need for solitude or more interaction with others changes. If we are ill, we might move this line to allow another to comfort us, or we might have a project that we're working on that requires our full attention and so we need more space during this time. See, there is an ebb and flow to it. My wish for each of you is that you find comfort in the personal space you are needing. Love and Light, Judi
